Russia’s steel market is forecast to grow from US$39.8 billion in 2026 to US$46.7 billion by 2033, registering a compound annual growth rate of 2.3%.The industry outlook is supported by government-backed infrastructure development, railway modernisation, oil and gas pipeline expansion, industrial construction and domestic manufacturing initiatives. Import substitution policies are also encouraging local steel production and reducing dependence on foreign supplies.
Flat steel is expected to remain the leading product segment, driven by demand from automotive manufacturing, shipbuilding, construction, machinery and household appliances. Long steel and tubular products will continue to benefit from residential development, transport infrastructure and energy projects.
The Central Federal District is projected to lead the Russian steel market due to its strong concentration of steel plants, industrial facilities, logistics networks and major consumers. The Ural, Siberian and Volga regions will also remain important production and demand centres.Despite the positive outlook, trade restrictions, geopolitical uncertainty, raw material volatility and rising environmental compliance costs could affect market growth. Investments in electric arc furnaces, recycling, low-carbon production and value-added steel products are expected to create new opportunities for Russian steelmakers.
