Austrian steelmaker Voestalpine has opened a new production facility at its Jeffersonville site in Indiana, completing a €70 million expansion that doubles the plant’s manufacturing capacity. The upgraded facility will produce high-quality longitudinal beams for Class 6, 7 and 8 commercial trucks. Annual capacity is set to rise from 40,000 metric tonnes to 80,000 metric tonnes, supporting long-term supply agreements with major North American truck manufacturers.
The project adds nearly 15,000 square metres of production space and introduces advanced equipment for longitudinal beam manufacturing. The facility is currently in its start-up phase and is expected to reach full production by mid-2027.
Voestalpine said the investment strengthens its position in the North American commercial vehicle market and supports its local-for-local growth strategy. Producing closer to customers is expected to improve supply reliability, strengthen partnerships and help the company respond more efficiently to regional demand. The Indiana expansion highlights growing investment in value-added steel components as commercial vehicle manufacturers seek stronger and more localised supply chains.
