Sandvik Coromant has introduced GC1240, a next-generation indexable milling grade designed to improve stainless steel machining with higher productivity, longer tool life, and greater process reliability. Built with an advanced nano-multilayer PVD coating using Zertivo® technology, GC1240 delivers exceptional resistance to thermal cracking and abrasive wear while maintaining a strong, stable cutting edge.
The new grade supports both wet and dry machining, with dry operations achieving cutting speeds up to 20% higher in suitable applications. This helps manufacturers reduce coolant consumption, lower energy usage, and improve production efficiency while supporting sustainability goals. GC1240 is recommended for light roughing to finishing of stainless steels and also performs effectively on heat-resistant superalloys and titanium.
Available across 13 CoroMill® families with 77 tooling options, GC1240 offers manufacturers greater flexibility for demanding machining operations. For the Indian steel market, the launch represents another step toward advanced manufacturing technologies that can improve machining quality and reduce production costs. It also aligns with evolving steel export news, where manufacturers are increasingly adopting high-performance tooling to meet global quality standards and strengthen competitiveness in international markets.
