GSM Tanzania Limited has selected Italian plantmaker Danieli Technologies to supply a new rebar and wire rod mill at Kilimanjaro Industrial Park, strengthening Tanzania’s expanding steel manufacturing sector. The new mill will have an annual production capacity of 300,000 tonnes and will process 150 mm x 150 mm billets at rates of up to 50 tonnes per hour. It will manufacture 8–32 mm rebar and 5.5–6.5 mm smooth wire rod, supporting growing demand from Tanzania’s construction and infrastructure sectors. Danieli’s equipment package will include 14 cartridge-type GCC stands, a 10-pass BGV finishing block, in-line quenching and tempering systems, and high-speed delivery technology. Danieli Automation will also provide advanced process controls designed to improve operational reliability and simplify maintenance. The project is designed to reduce energy consumption and production costs while maintaining consistent steel quality. The investment is also expected to strengthen GSM Tanzania’s position in the fast-growing East African steel market and could pave the way for further cooperation with Danieli in steelmaking and downstream processing.
