NEMO Selects Tenova for Louisiana DRI Plant Nippon Steel Returns to Profit in Q1 JFE Steel Produces Iron Using Green Hydrogen
Hydnum Steel has secured €60 million in government funding to support its upcoming green steel plant in Puertollano, Spain. The funding comes through Spain’s PERTE programme, which supports strategic industrial and energy transition projects.
The proposed plant is expected to produce 1.5 million tonnes of flat steel products annually and will be designed to use fossil-fuel-free energy across the production process. The project is being developed with partners including Helvella, Siemens, ABEI Energy and Russula.
With a total expected investment of around €1.6 billion, the green steel facility could become a major boost for low-carbon steelmaking in Europe. Construction is scheduled to begin in December 2026, and the project is expected to create nearly 5,000 jobs in Puertollano.
