India’s Ministry of Steel is set to unveil a dedicated incentive package aimed at accelerating green steel production in the country. The move aligns with India’s broader sustainability goals and the national target of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2070.
As per officials, the proposed package will feature tax benefits, capital expenditure support, and incentives for adopting green technologies like hydrogen-based steelmaking, electric arc furnaces, and carbon capture systems.
The ministry aims for 25% of India’s total steel production to come from green steel by 2030. Major producers including JSW Steel, Tata Steel, and AM/NS India are already investing in sustainable production technologies.
A senior Steel Ministry official stated, “This incentive package will play a pivotal role in securing India’s sustainable future while maintaining global competitiveness in the steel sector.”
The policy announcement is expected within the next quarter.
