NEMO Selects Tenova for Louisiana DRI Plant Nippon Steel Returns to Profit in Q1 JFE Steel Produces Iron Using Green Hydrogen
SMEL Steel Structural, a step-down subsidiary of Shyam Metalics and Energy, has commenced commercial production at its aluminium foil manufacturing facility in Sambalpur, Odisha.The new facility has an installed operational capacity of 18,000 tonnes per annum and can manufacture premium-grade aluminium foils ranging from 6 to 40 microns in thickness. The development strengthens the company’s position in India’s growing value-added aluminium products market.
SMEL is also preparing to launch its Aluminium Flat Rolled Products facility by September 2026. The upcoming unit will have an installed capacity of 60,000 tonnes per annum and produce aluminium products with thicknesses ranging from 0.3 mm to 4 mm.
The company is investing approximately ₹800 crore in its aluminium facilities at Sambalpur. The expansion is expected to support downstream aluminium production, broaden the company’s product portfolio and meet rising demand from packaging, automotive, electrical and industrial sectors.
